Sick or Injured Student Policy K-12

When do we automatically send students home?

If a student has: (most common issues)

  • diarrhea
  • vomited
  • temperature of 100.0° degrees or higher
  • possible pinkeye ~ conjunctivitis
  • possible broken, fractured or dislocated bones
  • lice ~ pediculosis
  • ringworm ~ tinea all forms (scalp, skin, groin, feet)
  • any other condition that is highly contagious
  • or if they are in a lot of pain and need medical attention

When do we call home? (To inform - NOT to pick up).

  • If a student is injured during the school day but does not go home we will call to inform parent/guardian of the injury.
  • If a student has come down to the office and has a temperature of 99.5°– 99.9°, we will call to ask parent/guardian if we can give their child Tylenol or Advil (children’s dosages are available for both).
  • Parent/guardian may decide to pick child up when we call.

Other situations….

  • If a child has a temperature of 98.7° to 99.4°, we will allow the student to rest in the office, but will ultimately send the child back to class.
  • We will email this notice home through field notes.  If a parent would like us to handle a situation differently with their child, we will be happy to accommodate their request.

When you send a student to the office, please send the pass with his or her with information.

·        If a student is going home, office staff will send the student back to the classroom with the pass to collect his or her things (e.g., coats, lunch, backpack, etc.). The student returns to the office to wait for pick-up.  Office staff may include additional information on the pass.

·        If a student is not going home, the student will return to class with the pass.  Review it for additional information.
